The springs
Water from stone lions
Five minutes on foot from Armonia, the famous springs of Menites. Six stone lions hold cold, clear water in their mouths, flowing without pause — year-round, winter and summer.
The water descends from the Sarida springs at the top of the mountain. Beside the fountains, a small grove of plane trees and the church of Saint Panteleimon. It’s where locals strike up conversations with travellers and where children fill their water bottles.
The village
Narrow lanes, mansions, quiet squares
Menites was built in the 17th century by noble families of Andros. Their neoclassical mansions — with iron gates and stone walls — still stand alive along the narrow street.
Around them: small squares with plane trees, tavernas where dinner stretches for hours, and the church of Panagia Koumoulou at the centre. By night, the only light comes from balcony lamps, and the only sound from running water.

How to get here
From Rafina
Ferry from the port of Rafina to Gavrio on Andros. The trip takes 2 hours. Daily sailings year-round, more frequent in summer.
From the port
From Gavrio, drive to Menites — 28 kilometres, about 35 minutes. Rental cars and taxis available at the port.
